The Brief

A homeowner in the West Midlands had bought an electric vehicle and wanted a home charger installed so they could charge overnight on the driveway. The priority was a clean, safe installation done properly, with a tidy cable run and dedicated protection rather than a charger simply spurred off an existing circuit. They wanted it set up and ready to use, with no loose ends.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Assessed the supply: We started by checking the existing electrical supply to confirm it could safely support an EV charger, and planned the best route and mounting position with the homeowner.
• Fitted a dedicated EV consumer unit: A separate EV consumer unit with surge protection was installed, giving the charger its own dedicated protection independent of the rest of the home.
• Mounted the charger with a tidy cable run: The OZEV-approved charger was wall-mounted in the agreed position, with the cable run kept neat and discreet from the board to the unit.
• Commissioned and tested: Once installed, the charger was fully commissioned and tested, and the homeowner was shown how to use it, ready to charge from day one.

The Result

A clean, professional home EV charging setup that the homeowner can rely on every day. With a dedicated consumer unit and surge protection, the installation is safe and properly separated from the rest of the home's electrics. The charger was tested, commissioned and ready to use straight away, so the owner can charge conveniently on their own driveway.
